The 2026–27 Federal Budget and NDIS changes: what to know

In its 14 May 2026 update, the NDIS explained that the Australian Government announced reforms in the 2026–27 Federal Budget. These include a proposed Inclusive Communities Fund, work on clearer eligibility assessments, and action on fraud and poor-quality services.

The important point for participants: the NDIS said nothing would change for now. People could keep using their current plans and did not need to take action because of the announcement. The NDIS said the current rules and planning arrangements would stay the same until after the proposed law passed.

The NDIS also described a new way of planning starting from April 2027. This is a future change, not a reason to stop or change supports today. Dates and details may be updated as the law and implementation progress.

If you receive a letter or message about your own plan, read it carefully and contact the NDIS or your support coordinator with questions. For the latest position, check the official NDIS update linked below rather than relying on an older article.
